I’ve always loved being up in the mountains. Ever since I was tiny, family road trips to Sagada twice a year taught me to love and appreciate having patchy reception, chilly weather and the starry sky unmarred by the bright lights of the busy city. My friend Cami proposed climbing Mt. Pulag first as a joke and I was still in NY at that time going through some stuff so I jumped at the opportunity and said definitely, why not? A few months later Pulag was before us. It was honestly one of the most physically and mentally challenging things I’ve ever done. I’m not super fit and I was terribly under the weather during the trek that started at midnight. I doubted myself more times than I care to admit but reaching the summit made me forget all the pain and breathlessness that I felt. Looking into the horizon was simply amazing. Pillowy, marshmallowy clouds surrounded me in all directions. My mind was peaceful as I watched the sky change colour from navy to bright marigold to a milky blue as the sun rose. Mountaintops will always have a special place in my heart and it I pray that I will have many more experiences in my life that make me feel the same way that being on a mountaintop does.
