Dolphins, Sea Turtles, and Family Bonding

June 8-12, 2017

After Alex’s five months of living and studying in Manila, we rounded up his time in the Philippines with a long weekend spent with my family in Bacolod and Dumaguete.

We took a boat to Apo Island and spent the day snorkelling above five feet long sea turtles and colourful fish and corals. We had a delicious lunch of grilled chicken, pork, and fish and had a lazy afternoon chilling with the local strays.

On our second day in Dumaguete, we took another boat (this time with the Tita’s) to watch for some dolphins. We saw so many of the majestic creatures swimming and jumping around since they seemed to be following our boat! We then anchored at the Manjuyod Sand Bar for the rest of the morning and early afternoon. We didn’t actually get to walk on the sand bar since our schedule didn’t allow us to wait for low tide so Alex (at over six feet) was the only one who could reach the sand with his toes haha! There were fish vendors in the middle of the sea and we purchased fresh seafood for lunch, including uni (sea urchin) which was a treat.

Sunday, June 11th, was my Lola’s 88th birthday and we celebrated with many relatives and friends at the Vikings Buffet back in Bacolod. πŸ™‚

For our final day, we headed to Lakawon Island for more swimming and working on our tans. We had a warm, sunny, and sleepy afternoon enjoying each other’s company. That evening, we had our last chicken inasal dinner and hopped on a flight back to Manila. ‘Twas such a special trip. ❀
